‘Hello! My name is Caroline Hodges; I am an artist based in the Uttoxeter area. I paint pet and animal portraits from photographs. I work with watercolour paint which allows me to build up layers of colour and texture. My aim is to create a vivid likeness of my subjects without them appearing to be too photographic.
I usually work on a cream or beige textured paper. I do not paint backgrounds behind my portraits as I feel it distracts the eyes away from the portrait, which contains a lot of detail in itself. The size of portrait is dictated to a degree by the physical appearance of each individual pet or animal. All my portraits are mounted, and I can also provide a complete service and frame them as well. My prices start from £210, unframed, for a small dog and from £230, framed, for a small dog.
